Family, Early Life and Education
Karan Johar was born in Mumbai. His father’s name is Yash Johar, who was a producer of Bollywood films and the founder of Dharma Productions. His mother’s name is Hiroo Johar.
Karan studied at Greenlans High School in Mumbai and HR College of Commerce and Economics. He holds a master’s degree in French.

Karan Johar made his debut in the film industry as an assistant director with the film ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ which is considered one of the landmark films of Hindi cinema. In this film, he also played a small role of Shahrukh’s friend.
His first film as a director was ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. Which was a blockbuster. The film was based on a love triangle. The film was highly appreciated and the film won many awards. After this, sometimes happiness, sometimes sorrow, sometimes not saying goodbye, my name is Khan. In all these films, Karan cast his best friend Shahrukh in the lead role. After this, as his producer-director, he started casting a new generation in the films.
He has also appeared in cameo in many films.
Johar was the host of Koffee with Karan, a talk show where he interviewed actors, directors, producers, and other prominent members of the Hindi film industry. The series ran intermittently between 2004 and 2019, with six seasons as of June 2020..
