Family, Early Life and Education
Sofia Vergara was born on 10 July 1972, She was born and brought up in a middle-class Catholic Christian family from Barranquilla, Columbia. Her mother, Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara, is a housewife. Her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, provides cattle to the meat industry. She has five siblings.
She completed her early education at the Colegio Marymount in Barranquilla, Columbia.
She later enrolled herself at the National University of Columbia in Columbia from where she completed her graduation. She initially studied dentistry but later left 2 semesters before her course ended. She always has a desire of pursuing her career in the entertainment industry.
Vergara was married at the age of 18 to her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. They have a son named Manolo, born in September 1992. They divorced in 1993.
Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000. She had the thyroid removed, underwent radioactive iodine treatment, and has fully recovered. She is taking medication to prevent hypothyroidism.
Vergara and True Blood star Joe Manganiello got engaged on Christmas Day 2014 after dating for six months. They were married in Palm Beach, Florida on November 21, 2015.

Sofia was discovered by a photographer, whilst at the beach, and this led to various jobs in modeling and television. At age 23, she was a runway model. From 1995 to 1998, she co-hosted a travel show, Fuera de serie (1995), which gave her exposure in the United States.
Her first film role was the criminal comedy Big Trouble (2002). Her breakthrough role was as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the American television series Modern Family (2009).
In 2010-2013, she received four Emmy nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for this role.
His first notable work as an actor in English was in the film Chasing Papi (2003). She then appeared in Four Brothers (2005), receiving an ALMA award nomination for the latter.
Since 2009, she started playing Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the comic series ABC Modern Family, for which she was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, four Primetime Emmy Awards and seven Screen Actors Guild Awards.
