Family, Early Life and Education
Sofia Vergara was born on 10 July 1972, She was born and brought up in a middle-class Catholic Christian family from Barranquilla, Columbia. Her mother, Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara, is a housewife. Her father, Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo, provides cattle to the meat industry. She has five siblings.
She completed her early education at the Colegio Marymount in Barranquilla, Columbia.
She later enrolled herself at the National University of Columbia in Columbia from where she completed her graduation. She initially studied dentistry but later left 2 semesters before her course ended. She always has a desire of pursuing her career in the entertainment industry.
Vergara was married at the age of 18 to her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez. They have a son named Manolo, born in September 1992. They divorced in 1993.
Vergara was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000. She had the thyroid removed, underwent radioactive iodine treatment, and has fully recovered. She is taking medication to prevent hypothyroidism.
